4S and other (alleged) disasters….

I woke up last Friday to the news that G4s have apparently cocked up the staffing of security, for the global sporting event in a place near Southern England  (I have not gone mad here but have noted the news on the BBC about the Brand Police that have sprung up over here) . It would appear they are some 3500 out on getting the 10,000 people needed for the security contract. (value of around £280m!) All manner of MP’s are on the news slating them down, standing on their high horses & pointing fingers….

I would like to make a couple of observations.

1. “When you point your finger at someone, you point a further 3 back at yourself” (Quote – Paul Ludford)

2. “No one incident leads to a disaster” (Quote – Allen Revell)

It is clearly quite possible that G4s have contributed significantly to their own personal disaster. The ramifications of which, will no doubt go on for some time. It is also very possible that their clients may well have contributed to the issues they are facing.

Try try again!

Dom Goucher – The Internet Guy behind BizNetworkGuy

Dom Goucher – The Internet Guy behind BizNetworkGuy

This week’s podcast is a chat with Dom Goucher.

I have particularly been looking forward to this one.  Dom Goucher is a long time mentor of mine and has been behind BizNetworkGuy from the very start. English in nationality, Dom lives in Spain and is part of the team that creates the Preneurcast weekly podcast in company with Pete Williams.

I first ran into Dom on the recommendation of Jen Sheahan. Jen is a great friend of my family. We fairly regularly visit Australia and invariably stay with the the Sheahan family in Melbourne.

The very nice and very talented Jennifer Sheahan!

On my last visit some 3 years ago, Jen was just getting into the internet and working on some pay per click opportunities. In a very short period of time, Jen has become one of the worlds leading authorities on Facebook marketing techniques. Her company FBAdsLab is very fast growing organisation that represents some of the highest profile people around on Facebook. If you want to work on Facebook, then I would highly recommend you getting in touch.

Through Jen, I was introduced to “The Challenge” and therefore the legend that is Ed Dale. I would describe the Challenge as a method of learning to drive on the internet. If you have the time and the motivation, Ed and his team will get you on the road in around 14 weeks.

Hi
I have been waiting for a long time to interview Dom Goucher. He is a real talent and a great help to me at BiznetworkGuy.com. He is full of advice and information on how to get the best out of life, business and the internet

And then there was Darkness

It is safe to say I had a hell of a week. All was going swimmingly well until 1045 on Wednesday morning. I was on a business trip to Manchester. I hired a car for the journey and had a good opportunity to meet up with a telecoms company, who were interested in Geostrut. Just before I arrived, the phone went and it was a chap called Chris Knowles.

Chris; I have known for a long time, and he was calling as he had received and odd email. It stated I was in Manilla and had been mugged. My passport and money had been stolen and the request was to help out.

Cold shivers down the spine!

A friend of mine had the same thing happen a year before. Henry works in the music industry, and it was very plausible that he might have been traveling. I run a company called International facilities and sourcing. You can see where people might find it reasonable for me to visit Manilla.

I was inundated with calls over the next hour or so, and contacted my ISP to suspend the account. The damage was done really, as you will note in the video.

The long and the short of it is that I am still not fully back up to speed. I had to review every account I had, and alter passwords / emails or both. I had to check with banks, card companies and write to my entire address book, to inform people that this was a scam.

I am really peeved to say that this was not 100% successful. The cost has been dear to me and to one other as far as I know. A new computer disk and many hours of work to recover.

Do you know the worst bit. I have used Roboform for all my online operations since late last year. It has been a great little investment. All my work with blogging and marketing has used the system to great effect. I regularly change passwords and have hundreds of them. This is not a problem with Roboform, as it memorises all and takes the strain away.

The cock up came in that I did not change some of my original accounts and details over. We are all told to change and manage passwords carefully. We know we should, but on the whole it does not happen. Come on admit it!

I am living proof that this is not a good policy, and I don’t want you to go through this.

I use Roboform and I would highly recommend it. If you don’t have proper password protection, then please do not delay in getting yourself sorted out.

The link will take you to the Roboform site and I want you to know it is an affiliate link. I am an internet marketer (if you didn’t know) and this is how (on occasions) I can make a little back for my efforts. I only recommend items that I use, and like. That is that! You can of course google the site independently if you wish to take a look.

The system is good, there are of course others. My only plea is that you take my advice and find a system that works for you.

Prop ‘n Go – Hybrid Lap Stand for iPad & Kindle with Adjustable Angle Control Review | Nook Covers And Cases

Prop’n Go – Hybrid Lap Stand for iPad & Kindle with Adjustable Angle Control Review
I bought the Prop it up for both my iPad and my HP Tm2 tablet laptop. The Prop it up works really well for getting my tablet into a slanted position that’s actually high enough to get rid of the bad viewing angles of the TM2. I’ve been looking for a stand that could do this for some time and this fits the bill.

New post first for some time

Underwater App that helps to break the ice!

Have you ever felt isolated or out of your depth at a conference?

Have you ever been at an event or party, when you don’t know a soul, and no one has a clue who you are?

I have, and it’s no fun. If you have changed jobs recently, or are working in a new industry; then this is a scenario you might be facing right now.

Sonar is a cracking tool that will boost your confidence and put you on the front foot. Even if you are well established in your field, this app will most likely knock your socks off!

Imagine being in a conference room, full of strangers. How good would it be if you could:

  • See who was there at the event
  • Read about their interests and business
  • Identify those with similar interests to you
  • Send them a message with just one click

On top of that, if they are making their thoughts known by posting, you will see what they are thinking in real time.

Useful?…. I think so!

Once you have identified the Dude’s you’re interested in, Sonar makes it easy to message people with a simple click.

Hey, now they know your there too!

To me this is a fantastic aid to meeting people. 99% of the tricky bit, is breaking the ice with strangers. If you have a snippet of common interest, or personal knowledge; it becomes far easier to make an introduction that means something. I would take that every time, rather than starting cold.

Sonar is a mobile application that uncovers the hidden connections you share with people nearby. It bottles up the 99.9% of connections you miss everyday and puts them in your pocket. Yes that’s it! In real time, in the palm of your hand

Sonar facilitates conversation by highlighting shared friends, networks, and interests. It works by using Linkedin, Foursquare,Twitter and Facebook posts; bringing together all who are in your vicinity.

To get started all you do is check in on Sonar. The app works best at large events full of people checking in, like conferences, trade shows or concerts. It’s also great for public venues like parks, cafes and airports.

You can search for “sonar” in the Apple App Store. They are listed as “Sonar – Mobile Profile for Local Social Networking” and “Sonar Media, Inc.

MEFAS Middle East visit | International Facilities & Sourcing Ltd

MEFAS Middle East visit

I would like to give you a quick review of the last few weeks; and a hint of what is to come.

Since I last posted I have been to the Middle East and back and as of tomorrow night the 1st March I am once again heading out to the GCC region to take part in SSS Arabia, a security industry trade show being held in Al Khobar.  This show has a number of high profile exhibitors and includes representatives of a number of Government security and defence organisations.

The best part of this new visit is that it is as a direct result of invitation from one of the companies we visited on the last trip to Riyadh.

Also during the trip we were lucky enough to have Jeff Burke from ES Global and Phil Woodman from Modular and Volumetric join us at different points on the journey. All were received well with Jeff meeting up with Arabtec, Saudi Bin Laden and Sela Sport. Feedback has been great and two live jobs are now under consideration.

Saudi Bin Laden Projects include the huge development at Makkah

Phil came to Cairo meeting up with Deyar Construction for two days of site visits and useful discussion. The sheer scale of Cairo is difficult to take in and our visit came at a time of distinct unrest. However we were once again very well received and extremely well looked after for the duration of the visit.

One of the great places to visit in the worlld - Pyramids @ Giza

Egypt has a stated aim to construct 700,000 units of accommodation each year. Currently and in part due to the political and social situation they are falling well short. The ethos and objectives of M & V will fit well and should really be a great part of the solution in days to come

Also in the last few weeks Geostrut has taken some great strides both in the UK and the Middle East. Craig Barker CEO of Geostrut USA joined me in Egypt to meet up with a couple of Local prospective dealers. In the event we found some great people to work with at SkyGoup, Cairo and we look forward to moving ahead shortly.

Back in the UK I have hooked up with an old acquaintance in Simon Gillett. Simon is probably best known for his time as owner of Donnington Park Raceway with a contract to stage the F 1 race for the next 15 years. Ultimately it was not to be and Simon has moved on to other business interests.

We have found some common ground on a number of projects that Simon is working on and International Facilities and sourcing will be working to support some of the upcoming projects. One of these a Street lighting contract in Ghana is of possible benefit to GeoStrut to create the lamp posts. Solar powered arrays will charge on board batteries providing street lighting for all whilst not impacting on the countries National Grid. Great project, hope it takes off.

Hi hope you enjoy this it gives some insight into our recent visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
